Forum Theatre as an educational tool

Description: Forum Theatre creates a space for meeting and dialogue where everyone can express themselves and debate social problems. It is a show which is built both by the actors and their audience. Forum theatre's most often types are: Spoken Forum Theatre and Image Forum Theatre.

Objectives:

  • Cultivate empathy.
  • Empower Critical Pedagogy.
  • Work through dialectic rather than didactic means
  • Engage the public audience in understanding and exploring creative solutions to an issue.
  • Enable clearer observation and reflection of everyday dynamics and dilemmas;
  • Empower community dialogue.
  • Discover, develop and validate local knowledge and critical capacity.
  • Games and exercises are designed to help community participants’ access and develop various modes of perception, expression and knowledge beyond those of conventional dialogue: the body, the image, the sonic, and the kinetic.
  • The rehearsal of various forms of action within the safe space of the theatre, awaken a sense of heightened capacity, creativity and desire for action beyond the theatre.

Target group:  Animators, teachers in every education level, people working in the field of prevention and healthcare, activists, artists, people who manage political issues, people who want to work with groups focusing on trying to find solutions to problematic situations. Youth and adults Erasmus project groups.

Main topics of the course: Interactive pedagogy and didactics, Empathy learning, Social and emotional learning, Interdisciplinary learning, Sustainable inclusive learning, Environmental learning, STEAM learning.

Methodology of the course: Theatrical games and exercises, brain-storming, literature research, problem-solving, group creative playwriting, group theatrical implementation, interactive shows in front of small audiences, interaction and sharing with locals.
